THE NEW BUSINESS ROADMAP: THIS IS THE QUICKEST WAY TO THE NEW ECONOMY

The transition to the New Economy – climate-neutral, circular, inclusive and with fair chains: this is what we want to achieve with you, and preferably as quickly as possible. The question is: how do you do this? What are your priorities? Whatever they are, we can help you achieve them. The New Business Roadmap uses seven roadmap items to guide you towards the New Economy that show you the quickest way to get there.

THE 7 AGENDA ITEMS

AGENDA ITEM 1

NEW WEALTH

We all know that money doesn't guarantee happiness. But our entire economic system is focused on financial profit. We want to do more with fewer people and only pay the lowest price. In the new economy businesses strive not only for rising sales figures, but also for more natural resources, better public health or less loneliness. A positive social impact ranks on a par with the pursuit of financial growth.

AGENDA ITEM 2

NO SUCH THING AS FREE

A key tenet of sustainable enterprise is that ‘real’ prices should be charged for goods and services. To anyone with even the slightest faith in market economics, the logic is crystal-clear: if it costs more to pollute, it will pay to produce cleanly. If CO2 emissions cost money, businesses will be more inclined to use climate-friendly processes. That’s how it works in the new economy. The polluter pays.

AGENDA ITEM 3

FACTORY SEEKS FANS

Quality marks and audits have helped a lot, but we’re still not where we want to be: fair supply chains and an end to abuses in factories and plantations. To achieve that we need an approach that monitors working conditions in the supply chain.

AGENDA ITEM 4

DESIRABLE DIVERSITY

Look around you and you’ll see the wide diversity in society. People with skin tones ranging from snow white to deep black, with unusual hair styles, headscarves or brogues. Their grandparents were born in Almelo or Aleppo. They studied at a posh university or went to school on the fringes of the city. So it’s strange that the average management team is still fairly uniform. That’s not the case in the new economy.

AGENDA ITEM 5

MAKING THE NETHERLANDS THE WORLD CHAMPION IN GREEN ENERGY

In the Netherlands we’re a long way behind other countries in the energy transition. The objectives are very high, and at the current pace we won’t achieve them. We’ve taken small steps towards the greening of our energy supply in recent years. Around six percent of energy is now generated from renewable sources. For many years the Netherlands has been a laggard in Europe when it comes to green energy. Something needs to happen, and quickly.

AGENDA ITEM 6

A TWITTERING SPRING

What does the disappearance of the tawny pipit in the Netherlands have to do with your business operations? Perhaps more than you think. If you’re not losing sleep at the thought of a silent spring, you’re in ‘good’ company: many businesses have a blind spot about the importance of biodiversity and the impact business has on it. Awareness of this theme is sorely needed.

AGENDA ITEM 7

KEEP THOSE RAW MATERIALS CIRCULATING

It seems so simple. Sell the things you no longer need to someone else who can make good use of them. No more waste disposal fees, no more depletion of raw material stocks. Everyone's happy. For twenty years Marktplaats.nl has shown that this circular system can operate perfectly for consumer products. In the B2B materials market it’s a different story. But new possibilities are emerging.
