Community of Practice: Getting Started with CSRD
Tuesday 19 September 2023 from 14.00 till Tuesday 28 November 2023 17.00 | various location
In November 2022, the European Union adopted the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This directive mandates a large number of companies to report on the impact of their activities on people and the environment starting from 2024. To comply with these requirements, it is crucial to start preparing now by collecting data and establishing a governance structure. This process takes time and presents a significant challenge. MVO Netherlands is organizing the Community of Practice: Getting Started with CSRD to simplify this challenge for you.
COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE IN BRIEF
- Four monthly meetings on Tuesdays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
- Expert explanations from Grant Thornton, EY, Nauta Dutilh, and the Dutch Professional Association of Accountants (NBA), independently guided by MVO Netherlands.
- Composition of a fixed group of companies facing similar challenges, enabling interactive learning from one another.
- Combination of theoretical and practical aspects through personal assignments, sharing challenges, and group discussions.
- By the end, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of CSRD requirements and know what needs to be done within your organization to prepare for them.

PROGRAM
The meetings will take place on four Tuesdays: September 19th, October 10th, November 7th, and November 28th. Two sessions in the morning and two in the afternoon. Depending on the participants’ needs, there will also be time for networking and further discussion after each meeting.
Each session consists of plenary parts and breakout sessions. In the plenary parts, an expert will explain the theory of a specific aspect. In the breakout sessions, you will engage in guided discussions with other participants regarding challenges and practical actions.
The structure of the meetings is as follows:
- Ambition, goals, and obligations
- Measurement and reporting
- Control and audit
- Governance and leadership
By the end of the series, you will not only know how to meet the CSRD requirements but also be motivated to make sustainability an integral part of your business strategy.
UNIQUE: LEARN TOGETHER WITH A COLLEAGUE AND PEERS
What sets this program apart is that you participate in pairs. This enhances collaboration with your colleague and facilitates quicker implementation of necessary actions within your organization. Working in a fixed group on a shared challenge allows for a deeper dive into the practical aspects of the CSRD guidelines. We also utilize a digital platform to exchange data, documentation, and experiences – even outside the scheduled meetings. Participants from previous editions are also present on the platform, providing an opportunity to discuss implementation issues. You will truly become part of our CSRD community!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the CSRD?
The CSRD directive requires large companies to report on aspects such as CO2 emissions, social capital, as well as the impact the company has on biodiversity and human rights violations in the supply chain. The directive is an extension of the existing European directive on sustainability reporting, the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD). The CSRD will apply from January 1, 2024, to companies currently falling under the non-financial reporting directive (NFRD), and from 2025 for large companies not currently covered by it.
How do I know if the CSRD applies to my company?
The CSRD will apply to companies that meet at least two of the following three criteria: 250+ employees, a balance sheet total of 20 million euros, and net turnover of 40 million euros. Want to know more? Read more about what the CSRD is and who it will apply to.
