Role government

In the first instance corporate social responsibility appears to be the responsibility of the business community. But the government also has an important role to play. The government sets frameworks and stimulates developments and investments that contribute to sustainability, participation and social cohesion.

CSR Netherlands expects a consistent policy from the government. So that companies are not faced with unanticipated changes of direction.

The government as customer?
In 2010 the central government intends to implement a 100 per cent sustainable purchasing strategy. The municipal authorities are aiming for 75% in 2010 and 100% in 2015. Provincial governments and water boards want to implement a 50% sustainable purchasing strategy in 2010. If you want to supply your services and products to the government in 2010, you will have to fulfil the sustainability criteria.
