Vision

CSR provides an opportunity to strengthen the market position.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) strengthens the market position of the company and contributes to a healthy national economy and society at the same time. By implementing corporate social responsibility, companies translate major social issues (People and Planet) into solutions and products with which they can earn money (Profit). CSR provides an opportunity and strengthens the business case.

Urgency

The urgency of a sustainable and more social economy increases day by day. Think of CO2 emissions, global warming, rapidly declining biodiversity, the increasing scarcity of raw materials, 1 billion people suffering from hunger on a daily basis while 1 billion people suffer from obesity, migration and integration issues, persistent inequality and the economic recession. This is shown by the recent reports by the G20, Club of Rome, IPCC, World Bank, Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, Netherlands Institute for Social Research, McKinsey and many other studies.

Future-orientated business practice

In their business operations, entrepreneurs are faced with various social challenges such as increasing costs of raw materials and a shortage of labour due to an ageing population. Through corporate social responsible entrepreneurship - such as operating a climate-neutral business practice and modern employment practices - entrepreneurs demonstrate that they respond to current market opportunities.

Starting point

The vision of MVO Nederland is based on the reports by the Social and Economic Council (SER) ‘The profit of values’ [‘De winst van waarden’] and ‘International corporate social responsibility’ [‘Internationaal maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen’], the OECD guidelines, the ILO standards and the CSR government policy document 2008.
